Mazie with a Best of Breed win

Unfortunately, Mazie was diagnosed with Diabetes just after her 2nd birthday.  Diabetes is not a common disorder in Vizslas, so we were quite surprised as was the vet.  She was immediately spayed to try and keep the level of insulin required to low level.  Mazie receives 2 insulin shots daily to manage the Diabetes.  The vet informed us that since she was diagnosed at such a young age, that it is probably genetic in nature.  She was just 1 major shy of finishing her championship.    Mazie finished her JH with careful monitoring to insure her diabetes was kept in check.   Mazie enjoys life hunting bugs, birds, and sneaking into the recliner to sleep whenever she gets a chance.

This is an example of why to breed dogs later rather than earlier.  Genetic disorders may show up when least expected.  We were very thankful when she was diagnosed that we breed when a female is closer to 4 years of age than 2 years of age.

I will get a link up shortly about Diabetes and dogs for people who would like more information on the disorder.
